The Benson Foundation as stated in its Mission and Vision, is focused on the health and education sectors through poverty alleviation. With that and our integrity in mind, we have partnered with two renowned institutions one of which is a branch of this foundation namely;
Nonetheless, we work with various institutions and charities that are also reputable and accountable in their focus and mission. As an organization, we believe that we all have the power to contribute to the development of this nation regardless of how big or small an individual, group, organization, institution, and affiliation may be.
The Benson Foundation in joint collaboration with Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) has various health programs that are focused primarily on sexual health. PPAG together with The Benson Foundation has a range of health programs such as;
Facility based services are delivered through Youth Centers and youth-friendly clinics where young people have access to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) information, education, recreation, skills training as well as clinical services. Clinical services include management of minor ailments, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) screening and voluntary counseling and testing(VCT) services.
Outreach activities include, Advocacy, Behaviour Change Communication (BCC), Mobile Clinics, Peer Education, Franchising, Competitions, Social Marketing of non-clinical contraceptives etc. The Association also builds institutional leadership and capacity to implement program activities.
As a way of making our program effective, we offer a two day in house orientation where basic information is given to volunteers prior to starting volunteer work. Not only do we focus on volunteer related issues during the two day orientation. We also relate information concerning the community, currency exchange rates, basic Ghanaian language teaching in order for us to provide all the needed information to ensure a smooth, enjoyable, and successful experience and stay.
Upon completion of the in house orientation, we organize a little test to see how much was obtained and what should be added in case some have questions and concerns. PPAG also organizes a different orientation which is solely based on their activities and the time table that our volunteers will have to follow throughout their volunteering time with them. This is more detailed and program specific.
The Benson Foundation believes in consistency and hard work. With that said, we have partnered with health partners who have similar values, thus, work tirelessly all year round serving the people of the community and changing lives. We have a flexible time table to accommodate our volunteers and schedule activities within their available time of travel throughout the year.
Aside our affordable program cost, some of these health facilities require our volunteers to bring some basic medical supplies to enhance successful participation in the program. Some of these health partners only request voluntary provision of health supplies especially for outreaches and educational purposes.
The establishment of The Benson Foundation was stemmed from education with the belief that, education is the fundamental solution to poverty and the development of oneself, the community, and the country as a whole. With that foundation and belief, we have various educational programs available for our volunteers all year round varying from infrastructural to administrative support. Amongst many of our educational programs includes the follow;
This is an annual fair that is fully sponsored by the Benson family for our partnered school(s) through our educational program. We believe in having fun, celebrating, and honoring the teachers and students for all the hard work and dedication that went into the school year before ending the term for Christmas break. This is a fun-filled fair with music, dancing, friendly competitions,debates, talent shows, and as well as, honoring and recognizing students in each stage (grade) for outstanding performance.
Do you remember how you felt when it was time to go back to school? If so, you might remember going back to school shopping for school supplies. If you remember that feeling you were very fortunate to experience it. Unfortunately, there are kids who have not or may never have that experience.
We want to ensure that these students through our program are fully equipped for the school year because we believe in the power of education. In order to excel for greatness, you must have the proper tools and we want to do so for these students.
So, through this program you can help by donating supplies or through financial support.
Here is a list of some suggested supplies:
Pencils
Notebooks
Glues
Scissors
Rulers
Calculators
Gently used reading books for their library (Pre-K to 12th grade)
We would GREATLY appreciate all forms of school supply donations.
As much as we want volunteers to participate in our developmental programs, we also host volunteers who solely wish to travel for the cultural and artistic experience of Ghana and may not necessarily want to participate in a specific program.
